Via the Comox Valley Montessori Society, they are successfully fundraising to supply the program with needed materials. The Montessori program began in 2006 as a program of choice within the local public school district. It currently has children registered in Kindergarten through grade 3 for the 2008/2009 school year and has been approved to grow into a Kindergarten through grade 7 program. The Comox Valley is situated on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, and is bounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains and incredible beaches. The area is filled with farmlands, lakes, rivers, forests, and parks. The mild, temperate climate creates an exceptional location for an incredible range of year-round outdoor recreation activities. In 2005 a group of local parents with a common interest in finding elementary Montessori education for their children gathered together to form the Comox Valley Montessori Society.
The school board for SD71 has approved the continuation of the Montessori program and that it is now a K-7 program.
The first Montessori Class - a K/1 blend - is located at Glacier View School.
